still here
On the Computer I have been playing around with new colours on this blog and my website, as well as creating a new logo, which I am very happy with. I don't get much time to work on this side of my practice so I end up doing little bits here and there.

In the studio

I've been busy in the studio lately, making bigger pots and thinking of ways to develop my work. The weather is starting to change now (can occasionally get away with wearing a coat) and I'm looking for inspiration - can't wait for the autumn season's browny/reddy/goldeny colours. Also, I've been secretly working on a new much improved website, which is coming soon.

what i've been up to...
Had a brief trip to Stoke-on-Trent last week to buy a large amount of clay and visit some factory shops.
And, I've started to make some larger scale pieces.

One Step Beyond
Went to see an exhibition titled One Step Beyond at Centrespace Gallery in Bristol yesterday. It shows 5 graduates from Bath School of Art and design and it's on now until Wed 18th August. It shows some great contemporary work.

one that didn't make it
I've been making new pieces for ND One Year On and this is one that didn't make it past the first stage, but plenty of others did and I should have photos of them soon. It'll be recycled in to an new piece and have another chance, I try not to waste anything.

New Designers
Some news that I hadn't really announced yet on here is that I will be exhibiting at this years New Designers, in the One Year On section. I'm in part one, which is 1st - 4th July and I will be showing my latest distorted vessel work. I was there last year with my fellow graduates from Bath and enjoyed it very much, and it is exciting to be able to go back as an individual exhibitor.

Batch
This batch of functional work is currently in the kiln. It includes small creamers and simple espresso cups, as well as the usual mugs. I like photographing them at this stage as the throwing marks are clearly visible, my glazes tend to cover them up quite well, but still leave a hint as to what is underneath.

wednesday
Some photos of what I got up to today. A new jug design (this is the first one like this!) with quite a big handle. The most annoying thing is that I can't properly try it out until it's fired.

Using my new wedging bench. Richard made this by attaching a table top to the box of an old (empty) kiln. It works well.

nice weather
Yesterday I added some pictures of my latest distorted work to my website, including my colourful, new spiral cylinders (below, which I took to BCTF). I'm very pleased with this new body of work as the surface finish has developed in to a more subtle range of tones. Soon, I will be unveiling a new rich RED. The weather has been lovely recently, which always sparks off photography sessions. I've included a daisy from my lawn (before it's mowed away) and an empty blue sky - empty because there are still no planes!

busy #2
Getting ready for BCTF now. There is about three weeks to go, and it's at stages like this where I plan each day. I have lots to do and I've been spending a lot of time on the computer getting new photos ready and organising all the non-ceramic things I need for the show.
I thought I'd include a photo of one of my year 2 espresso cups being put to use as a pen holder on my desk, as it has become a familiar sight.

sun-shiny new mugs
Below is a taster of some new work. They are a new addition to my tableware forms and I'm thinking of exploring yet more forms in the future, using my glaze combinations to decorate them. The yellow and brown combination I have recently named "Sunrise," which has coincided nicely with the recent (sunny) weather.

Weekend in London
Last Weekend, Richard Winfield (whom I share a studio with) was exhibiting at Ceramic Art London 2010, which was a great excuse for me to come down, help out and generally have a good look around the event too. I always enjoy going and this year it was great to know that there were quite a few exhibitors that had graduated from or, had at some point worked at Bath Spa Uni too.
I also got a chance to see the New Beginnings 2010 exhibition at SDC Gallery. If you haven't been yet you've only got until Saturday the 6th of March 2010 to see it. There is a fantastic selection of high quality work made by fresh makers. It's at 24 Rivington Street, London, EC2A 3DU.

SDC Gallery
Here's the postcard for "New Beginnings 2010" courtesy of the folks at SDC Gallery. The show runs from the 21st of January to the 6th of march 2010 at the SDC Gallery, 24 Rivington Street, London, EC2A 3DU. The show includes my fellow Bath Spa graduate and MADEBath member Claire Baker. It will also be exhibiting examples of glass and jewellery made by new and innovative makers. It looks to be an exciting show so I hope you can make it!
